I see you run your virus scanner overnight - presumably that means you have to leave the power on? I have been in the habit of switching off at the wall when we go to bed.

Turning the power off is fine, but only IF you have properly shut down the computer by clicking the start button and selecting shutdown. Simply powering it off can risk data corruption.
