The majority of people who send emails in HTML or send attachments do not do so maliciously or even knowingly. Indeed they are often not very knowledgeable with computers and do not know how to change things from the defaults that came with their systems.

On the other hand there definitely is a great virus and malware risk for others on the newslist when these practices happen which is why some people lose their temper.

Because there will always be novices who will unknowingly do unsafe things, the only way to prevent these is NOT to try to educate the entire world, but for Legacy to update their software to one that screens out these dangerous emails. There is really no other way to prevent it.

My 2 cents.

Jeff

Maybe they are friendlier over at Family Tree Maker. If someone is new to Legacy or to using the User Group, at least the responses can be polite in pointing out the etiquette guidelines. With emails today, there is so much stuff added to the end of the mail - who even notices it anymore. Give her a break. She asked a question and got rude responses from 2 different people - totally unnecessary.

Brian, you've helped me previously, and I wonder if you can help me again. I sent the following message twice to Customer Support - with no reply. So,
in desperation I sent it again to the user list today and have been
chastized by one member for the way I sent the message. I will no longer
deal with the user group.

Touchy. Touchy! So what are you doing here again?

For a long time now, people have been repeatedly asked not to send
messages in HTML. Look at the end of EVERY message that you receive from
this list. There is a url concerning etiquette. Read what it has to say.
Drop the 'Me First' attitude, and then come back to us. We will help but
not people that won't conform to some very simple requests.

Please and thank you. I'm about ready to go to Family Tree Maker!!

Off you go then if you want to!
