I don't have an Ancestry subscription, but I use Ancestry's search engine in 
tandem with Heritage Quest. I plug in my search criteria, along with what I 
think the location might be. If I am correct, it is confirmed on the search 
results. I just can't view on Ancestry. I then go to the browse screen on HQ, 
find the correct location, and usually have to go through only a few pages to 
find what I'm looking for.

I have accessed census records from Heritage Quest thru my local library.
It's free.  I think  Ancestry.com has better search engine to search the
census.  It's not as good on some of the censuses in Heritage Quest.
