I name my unknown spouse with "Mrs. given name (w/o Benjamin Jones)" as
given name and "Jones" as surname. I use a like method for husbands with
given name starting with Mr. Like your method Howland, my 'unknowns' appear
on the name list with appropriate surname of spouse. In addition, I can
search the name list by given name "Mr." or "Mrs." to see all unknowns of
same sex together. Works for me. I thank you for posting your method to the
list.

Listers:

I had previously sent this out off-list to Ralph but have decided to
send it to the list afterall.

1. How do I add a “blank” spouse, i.e., indicate that a person has a spouse
when the name of the spouse is not known? When I attempt to add a spouse
without a name I get the error message "You must enter a name to save an
individual". I know that you have received at least response to the
question above but I have a different response. If you use "Unknown" as
the spouse and later you try to find that person, you will be looking
through a lot of "Unknowns." I have changed all of my "Unknowns," and
Legacy accepts my method (), as follows: make the spouse's name "(spouse of
Charles Smith)" or whatever (would work for brother, sister, etc.). Now
when you search under surnames, all of the unknown spouses will come up
together and you can pick out the right one easily.
Just my thoughts. Good luck with Legacy and keep asking questions. I
know that I don't use anywhere near all of its capability so I read the
questions and responses and if they look like I would like to do it, then I
print/save the question and responses.
