GC,

One more question.

What is the default viewer for JPG's and TIF's on your system when you
navigate to the file and double click it in Windows Explorer? (What is in
the title bar)?

Well, there is a bit more to this. I tested in my database attaching JPG's
as both pictures and files. Bottom line, I could view both BUT Legacy used
different viewers in each.

I took and individual who had NO attachments.

I attached four JPGS in the picture gallery. Two I attached with the
"Picture Icon", Two with the "File Icon".

When I opened (by double click in Picture Gallery) the two I attached using
the Picture icon, they opened but used a "Legacy Viewer" called Zoom in the
title bar. When I opened the two attached using the file icon, they opened
in Windows Photo Gallery which is the default for JPG's on my computer.

However, in the picture gallery itself (where I see all four thumbnails at
once), I see a mini picture of the ones I attached using the picture icon,
and a generic icon for the ones I attached using the file icon.

This isn't the way I thought it worked, but I'm a new user. I thought that
one file type (e.g. JPG) would always open with the same program. Apparently
not. Interestingly, the system uses what I would call the 'proper viewer"
i.e. whatever is set up for JPGS as the default program when you attach
using the File icon, not when you use the picture icon.

In Summary:

Can view JPG's attached with either Icon

When attached with Picture Icon, thumbnail shows in picture gallery, opens
with a Legacy specific viewer

When attached with File icon, no thumbnail in Picture Gallery, opens with my
default program (Windows Photo Gallery) for JPG's

I know this doesn't solve Ruth's problem, but it is more than just which
icon is used to attach.

Ruth,

The documentation is correct. You need to read more slowly and carefully.

The "In addition" means exactly what it states. If you have other documents
that are not picture files, sound files, or video files; then you must USE
the "File" icon. The "File" icon would mean documents such as PDF, MS Word,
WordPerfect, a VISIO drawing, an Excel Chart, etc...

"Adding Other Documents

In addition to pictures, sound, and video files, you can also attach any
other type of document to a person (or to an event, source, or location).
These documents can be word processing files, PDF files, spreadsheets, web
pages - whatever you like. Just as with sound and video files, these other
documents cannot be included on reports, but you can load and view them as
you would any other file. Double-clicking on a word processor document
starts your word processor and displays the file. The same happens for any
other type of file. Whatever program is associated with that file type will
be loaded to display the file. To add a document, click the FILE button and
specify the drive and folder where the file can be found."

Just seems to me this FILE function of Legacy isn't working as per the
documentation!

Loading TIF's or JPG's from the PICTURE icon makes no difference. They still
won't open. Why will a TIF file display properly in PHOTOs along with a JPG
file for the same individual when added from the PHOTOS icon?

Besides, this advice is contrary to the Legacy HELP documentation on the
subject of ADD - Documents.....

For JPG, TIFF, etc. I think you are supposed to use PICTURE. Try that.
