Bill, I agree. I did the same thing you did. Before I quit using a census as an event, I argued the point with my genealogy instructor at the local community college. He uses it as an event but could not come up with a reason to do so. If you are recording the residence event at the time of the census and use the census as a source, what does a census event add?
Again, as many have said, "Whatever works for you is the correct way to go". bgj -----Original Message----- From: William Boswell [mailto:whbosw...@gmail.com] Sent: Monday, February 21, 2011 4:17 PM To: LegacyUserGroup@LegacyUsers.com Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Obituary as Event? I used to use obituaries and census as events, but realized what a waste it was since they are used as sources anyway. I guess it's up to each person so I am not dictating whether to use it or not. To me it's just more work especially after linking that source with all the people it belongs with. That's pretty much why I stopped doing it. I also had obituary events listed by the newspaper name and the census was just listed as census for an event. After seeing it so many times I thought it looked odd so I stopped doing it. ------- Bill Boswell Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp
