You (and others) talk like there are programs that do "these things" better
than Legacy. I would really like to know which programs handles these
things better than Legacy does. There have been numerous put downs of
Legacy because it doesn't handle MANY things the way they think "these
things" should be handled. Such as:
1. Adoptions
2. Single Adoptions
3. Same Sex Marriages
4. Child of Same Sex Couples (which is impossible)
5. Marriage (period)
6. Multiple Marriages
7. Step Children
8. Unmarried Mothers
9. Unmarried Fathers
10. Unmarried Couples
11. Never Married
12. Child Before Marriage
13. " After Marriage
14. " Before Divorce
15. " After Divorce
The list could go ON-and-ON. I would REALLY like to know what programs
handle "these things" better than Legacy. I, personally, don't think they
could be handled too much better than Legacy handles them.
These are all things that happen in life, some being the norm (so-to-speak)
and some that is considered out of the norm, and some rarely happen. YET,
they all, have happened and do happen in our lives and the lives of the ones
we research. Some of us want to record just Genealogical Data. Some want
to record Family History. But, I think most of us want to research and
record Genealogical Data AND Family History.
BUT.........we cannot expect Legacy (or any other program) to be able to
handle all "those things" because the situations in all of "those things"
are so varied that it would be IMPOSSIBLE to meet the needs of each one.
This is the reason we have various NOTES sections, like Birth Notes, Death
Notes, General Notes and etc. We, as researchers, must be willing to put
the information in the Note fields that would tell the accurate story of our
ancestors and our present life for the future generations. We cannot expect
Legacy to be able to show all "those things" in the operation of the
program.
This is only my OPINION. I hope I have not offended anyone with this.
