I'm another Generations refuge, and I switched only reluctantly. However,
despite missing some features (esp the ability to search all fields at
once of all sources to help find one whose name I cannot remember, and the
ability to see Notes in the Family view), I would never switch back.

The Generations user group is helpful, but nowhere near as active &
helpful as this one. Bugs are not fixed (far less adding new features)
except by do-good user-suggested work-arounds; there is NO support,
period.

Also, I had no idea how many slick features I was missing (even though I
don't use all that there exist). I especially like the ease of clean up
of Master Lists of Locations etc.

I'm not just a Legacy user, I'm a convert.

Cary

Subject: Re: [LegacyUG] Constructing Family Trees

Four refugees from Generations, and I completely agree with John and Eva.

When Generation have serious problems with XP and there was no sign of
a fix after several months, I gave up. The problem related to any
editing of information on one individual causing other information to
vanish permanently! The attraction of Legacy was it's support. Believe
me, compared to others, the Millennia folk are true heroes.

The Generations charting capabilities were impressive, especially
their enhanced hour-glass charts. Like others I've never seen anything
else which approaches the capabilities of the Generations charting.
However, after the "disappearing data debacle" I'm not going anywhere
near them again!!

The whole episode made my very nervous about wholesale commitment to
any Genealogy program, which is why GEDCOM (specifically a sticky
"output everything" setting on GEDCOM output) is so important to me.

The newer Legacy facilities like Geo-location and the web-interface
are of no interest to me. I've tried to use them, but come to the
conclusion that they are more trouble than they are worth.
