If you have the Deluxe Version you can use the Renumber RIn's and MRIN's as Dennis says. If you do not have Deluxe then the way to renumber is to first export your file to a GEDCOM selecting Legacy as the Destination so all the data is transferred.

Now Open a New File and Import that GEDCOM. During the import you can tell Legacy to Renumber both RIN's and MRIn's starting from 1.

I have looked in the archives for the answer to my question, but did not find
it exactly as I need it answered. I have inherited a database from my deceased
mother, who used Legacy. I am getting around the program reasonably well, but I
want to use Geoff's filing system for my papers. I find the MRIN's so out of
whack that I will have many unused numbered tabs between those that are used.
Is there a way to wipe out the MRIN's and RIN's and start over? I can see how I can do them one at a time, but that is too much work for my large database. Thanks for any help. Brook Mercer
