My major family lines all have a different surname letter so I prefix the census graphic name with that letter. For example the census pages for all my Hartrum/Hotrum lines are prefixed with an H and become H1920NJn.jpg where the "n" is a character from 0 to 9 and then a to z -- I haven't yet needed more than 36 codes for one state or province but if I did I'd use other special characters. Likewise my Naylor line in the UK has census files such as N1921LINn.jpg when LIN is the Chapman code for Lincolnshire county. The only exception I make is when a family runs into a second census page then the files would have an extra suffix letter a or b so H1920NJna and H1920NJnb. The reason I don't like underscores in anything (including e-mail addresses and URLs) is if they are printed and the whole name underlined then the underscore appears to be a space. Hope this makes sense.
