Yes, they are right there in the book and they are written by geeks who don't appear to have the ability to write for a normal reader who likes to learn. The written instructions often don't make sense until you've already done it. And, the people who write them have done the things hundreds of times, so for them it's old hat.

I am by no means an linux expert but I have never seen anything that would be so difficult to understand. If there are such sections, suggest it on lfs-dev.

gullible? or kind, understanding and compassionate?

I can see it both ways, but being kind and helping them isn't always the best, IMHO. Pointing the people asking such simple questions to linux beginner documents, etc would be better. Their education will be more well-rounded and they will better understand what is going on.

There is a printed book on how to search using google. I doubt it was written because google is so simple to use for geeky things.

There is? You have got to be kidding me. If a person can't use google, they shouldn't even think about attempting LFS.

What the support staff on IRC is taught to do is help when they want to help, be polite if they don't want to help and be silent if they want to toss insults around the channel.

I was never taught that. ;) For the most clueless of irc users, I have seen some people tell them LFS is not for them and to learn how to use linux first. It is totally justified in my opinion. I have been told this myself on various topics related to computers, and I followed this advice.

imho, there are no stupid questions.

I am sure there are some out there.
