I did do that actually.
I found it hard to find a working animated 3ds file I could use to trace the 
code, dump the chunks, etc... That's why I was asking about the current status 
of this feature.
It seems easy to read using lib3ds for sure. But what about creating my own 3ds 
animation ? What kind of animation can we realise using the library ?

You can check the sampler source code to learn how to use lib3ds,in fact that's 
very easy.
