You're close enough to my age to remember the upright Maytag Washing Machine that, after serving ten years or so on the back porch washing filthy work clothes developed this unmistakable old rumble, deep down in its metal belly that you could hear for a country mile. Well, that rumble you are hearing is NOT a Maytag washing machine that somebody dragged into Liberty Northwest by mistake. It's Bill cogitating, carefully considering all the things I told him: 1. I'd be glad to help him any way I can to set it up, remembering, of course, that most of these days I am on the endangered species list due to the long hours I've been working. At least for the near-future, until I finish my current network installation, I leave earlier in the day than most people are even awake, and fall into bed by 8:00 o'clock at night. This makes reaching me by telephone difficult to all but my commercial customers. 2. I told Bill the specifications that Kharma's news server current is using, including the amount of bandwidth it takes to function, and that I have multiple news peers, but would be delighted to peer with him. It would open all kinds of possibilities. 3. I probably didn't say it, but perhaps I should have done so, that everyone in the world will want to read Usenet news off any unemcumbered news server, and thus you probably need to firewall the damned thing to keep rats and vermin from dumping their trash and smut in your convenient Usenet news repository. I think Bill is thinking about the information I've given him right now, and pricing out bandwidth. Given the current price of bandwidth, I would imagine Bill is consulting his "financial advisors" and muttering about Qwest DSL or some other broadband provider, as it tends to be a bit spendy. So, now you're up to date. I'll CC you in any future discussions about it, when they occur.
