I think you want to avoid thinking about the infrared stuff in the
networking area

You DO have MSIR20 Infared Monitor working, right?
"providing application support on COMx"?

What I mean is, there is infrared hardware in the Libretto. 50 series it is
usually on COM2 set in BIOS... 1x0 series it is set by the driver, mine is
on COM3.

IGNORE THAT!

Let the machine have the infrared stuff where it is. Now, the infrared
monitor, attaches to the infrared hardware and adds a virtual COMport.

OK, on the 1x0 it is "enable in frared communication ( to COM3 ) PROVIDING
APPLICATION SUPPORT ON COM4 AND LPT3"

It supplies, roughly, carrier detect... when the infrareds are connected
there is a sound, and you are "plugged in"

So, the DCC software only is concerned with the "application support" port
COM4... I have only had DCC and printing success on COM4, not LPT3

I would go back to a serial CABLE, get DCC working, THEN swing to Infrared.
