I think Xiaofan, Travis and I have been focusing mostly around Microchip 
PIC18F boards, but anything listed at [1] will be fine.
Personally, I've been using a PICKit2 kit, based around PIC 18F2550, 
which I got from [2] and the uncomplete AVR benchmark firmware I started 
in LUFA was developed using a Minimus USB [3]. I think Travis has a more 
complete firmware one for UC3 A3 Xplained [4], if you want to go the AVR 
route.
