Apparently they are not ... at least hardly anybody tried to run a
recent Linux kernel on these old machines, or the bug would have been
noticed earlier. So I guess that these customers are at least only using
a "conservative" Linux distro on their systems - likely RHEL or
something similar. Now consider that RHEL 7 will be released this year
(based on a kernel that still features 31-bit support), and you get ~6
to 10 years of support for such an enterprise distro - that means you
have the possibility to get a distro with 31-bit support 'till 2020 and
later ... do you think that people will still need 31-bit support in
recent kernels by then (for RHEL 8 for example)? I hardly can believe
so...
