Glad to see you back Sponge. The Windows side has been a bit
thin these days, not that you really add any substance.

you are in need of a reliable OS too. Micorosft must be

Perhaps, but we were talking about the apostrophes in this case. Mr (.) likes
to leave them out altogether so he says "ill" instead of "I'll" and "elses" instead
of "else's", which is hard to read and is worse than just disobeying a grammar rule.

You know, like when someone says "noone" instead of "no one". It is hard to see
"noone" and pronounce it with two syllables.

In my opinion, quotas aren't nearly as important as fine grained ACLs in the
corporate world (where NT was initially targeted). NTs file sharing
security model was designed with complex workgroups in mind rather than a
bunch of home directories as used in, say, the academic world. You are
right though, Novell has had both for years and MS really should have
included quotas much earlier, if not from the start.

No way is a freaking Chevette-sized transmission gonna last for even

Not necessarily. Too many variable conditions to predict. For a
degenerate example, when 1 and 2 were being launched, the system may
have run out of RAM and been using swap space, but in the meantime
another large program exited and made lots of real RAM available
before 3 and 4 were launched, so they get to live totally in
real space, and 1 and 2 are swapping. Sure, if enough space is
free, 1 and 2 should start getting their pages populated in real
RAM again too, but this isn't instantaneous, and meanwhile 3 and
4 got a bit of a head start, so they finish a few microseconds
sooner.

: Windows can't do that.

: Linux can. Linux is true multitasking.

It *can*, but it doesn't happen predictably every time. Linux
and NT are multitasking, but not real-time OS'es - you cannot
guarantee that all processes will run at the a predictable speed.

: This IS a crucial reason why when the going get's

Actually, the reason is too much reliance on higher-level things
being done in kernel space (kernel code runs with absolutely no
safety net, so it needs to be kept to a minumum if you want
stability.) I fear the inclusion of lots of third-party closed
source driver modules from hardware vendors into Linux - will
it some day make it as flaky as the bad drivers in Windows make
it?

: It has no sense of timing of it's internal processes.

And how many of them read "THE desktop operating system for office and
home users"?
