Its an old trick and they know about it, and its easy for them.

Quite true. This agency is more concerned for the National Security in
its own right.
And to keep in the know they listen to other countries communications.
Patterns develop when something serious crops up and they know what to
do in these cases. They've always watched and listened but you never
hear them doing anything about it. Its always the lower agencies that
seem to do all of the dirty work. One guy in the FBI didn't believe
their capabilities either until he found out the hard way. I don't
think that agency has any compassion for anybody.

They use other methods. But true, they can't monitor every e-mail or
every phone call and filter for keywords. I would rather not be their
focus of attention. One worker managed to get their attention and was
fired. The only job he could get is over in Yakima, Wa. as an apple
picker.

You've been fair about this. But I think I'll stay off this subject...
I have a pension and they could just as easily take it back.

For some reason I had re-download my newsgroups and I forgot to killfile
you. Thanks for reminding me why I did it in the first place.

That may be true in the general case, but, at least with respect to
Linux-Mandrake (which Pete Goodwin and I both use), I tried it both
ways. and had far better luck compiling from source.

Like most C++ code, KDE does take some time to compile. But the end
result works great on my LM 7.2 system (except for artsbuilder, which
has never worked on this box, but which honestly I haven't taken the
time to try to study and find out why).

Here's what they "admitted" to:

"Some of the images for Amped released during Gamestock were
enhanced to illustrate some features that will be in the
final
product. While this is a common practice for games so
early in
development, we apologize for the confusion. No one
intended to
be deceptive. Everyone was so busy prepping for
Gamestock, that
we just missed the fact that these were labeled "concept
art".
Frankly, we're impressed with the skillz of those
digital
                sleuths! Nice work!""

" The version shown at GameStock featured identical
terrain as the
shots, but the boarder models were of much lower
quality.
Basically they took the real-time snow that is used in
the game
and added a new boarder model and a HUD to it. "

End quote.

There's no "lying" going on at all. I've seen protypes from other game
companies. This is common practice.

Luxury. I dd not get to use a teletype until my second year as a physics
student in 1977. The APL sessions were my junior highscool math teacher
getting us a weekly two hour session back in 72-3. The APL terminals were
nice. After Algol on a 360 with a teletype grinding numbers for a physics
experiment, I did not get back into computers until I got my cp/m s-100.
I started to work in the IT field with dos and Netware. Getting Linux a
couple years ago was my first exposue to Unix. I regret how much time I
have wasted with the losedos environment.

Now I am working in a Solaris shop making more money than ever. I know
that the skills that I am learning are accumulative. Unix does not go
through a rewrite every few years. The basics like sed, grep and vi are
timeless. Yes, I am even getting to really like vi. I still have the
habit of saving my work every few minutes. Old habits from the losedos
daze. I was never a losedos fan. I have worked my share in tech support
and it is humiliating when the users are upset because losedos has failed
again. I have not worked tech support for almost three years and
hopefully I never will again unless it is in a Linux shop.

And this, Young Jedi, is why you fail. Instead of responding to the
points the article makes, you simply dismiss it and the reader.

Linux will never take off unless it's community of advocates (not
developers, the developers seem pretty nice) is willing to take some
(much-needed) criticism. They need to be:

1) less arrogant
2) less condescending
3) less insecure
4) more open-minded
5) mindful of why Microsoft SUCCEEDS and why they FAIL

In general, I find the Linux community so darn obnoxious and unlikable
(ie. Kulkis), or just plain religious like zealotrous (ie. Charlie
Ebert) at times it actually serves as a deterrant to me using the OS.

Is this flaimbait? Probably, but the truth is the truth.
