I beg your pardon, the statement I made was a little misleading. I should have said
that with only one dialup link you only need the following in /etc/conf.modules:

    alias tap0      ethertap

You don't need to use the option line for tap0 or refer to any other ethertap devices
at all unless you have multiple dialup links.
