When done properly they either rename the previous version or they install
the new version with a extension showing the change.  It all depends on how
the packager set up the spec file.  I hope you continue to have the same

the http://juanjox.kernelnotes.org site had some configuration rpms that
could be of help.

there was also a configuration rpm at ftp://contrib.redhat.com for 0.16.5
which should work with very little modification.
