What port controller is attached to? IIRC normally X uses two pieces -
port driver and Xinput extension. For serial ports there is xf86Elo.so
(don't remember exact name) extension in the XFree86 distro which
uses standard Linux serial driver. In my case in-house made controller
was attached to parallel port so I wrote parallel port driver and
xf86Touch.so
extension.
