That's right. I ran 2.2.0 for a couple of days with no major problems
before 2.2.1 came out.

It shouldn't be a problem. If you have it configured correctly for 2.0,
then the worst that will happen is that you end up with two routes to the
same destination (which doesn't cause a problem, it just looks ugly).
