    I believe you can do that by swapping the drive cables to the
    plain (e.g. not HPT366) connectors on the MOBO. The only issue
    I can think of is that the drive names may change to something
    other than /dev/hda and so on when you move the cables. You
    should be able to work around this by booting from alternate
    media (floppy?, CD if you can find one with HTP366 support?)
    and fixing /etc/lilo.conf, /etc/fstab and rerunning lilo.

I've been mounting and using HPFS partitions from within Linux for quite
some time with no trouble whatsoever. Wish I could help more but I don't
understand your problem from its description.

Is it that you changed something from within OS/2 and now you can't access
the OS/2 partitions from within Linux? If so, can't you undo the OS/2
changes? Does it work then? Did it ever work? Do you have HPFS support
under Linux (module or compiled in if possible)?

I would like to install multiple SB16 ISA cards into a RH6 box.
I can sndconfig either one and they work fine alone.

SB16 #1
 IRQ=5
 DMA=0
 DMA16=5
 IO=0x220
 MPU=0x300

SB16 #2
 IRQ=7
 DMA=1
 DMA16=6
 IO=0x240
 MPU=0x330

How can I get both loaded at the same time?
I have been editing /etc/conf.modules w/o much luck.

Thanks for any suggestions

Subject: Re: Modem is "busy" - PCI IRQ Sharing problem
Date: Mon, 01 Jan 2001 21:51:42 -0800

Thanks - I finally feel like I am on the right track now. However, it
is not working yet...

I downloaded serial 5.05 from sourceforge as you suggested. I included
it in the kernel and recompiled my Caldera 2.2.10.

The good news is that dmesg shows serial 5.05 being recognized. dmesg
also shows the two standard serial ports being recognized and the one
for my modem (/dev/ttyS4 uart 16550A) automatically on the correct port
(0xa800) and irq (10)! Very encouraging!!!

However, after I logged in, setserial showed that /dev/ttyS4 was not
setup yet (I thought it would be based on the kernel startup messages).
I did so manually with "setserial -v /dev/ttyS4 uart 16550A port 0xa800
irq 10 spd_normal skip_test.  Then when using kppp or cu -l /dev/ttyS4,
the modem/line is considered to be busy - hence the same problem.

Is there something else in the setup of the new serial driver that I
need to do? When I ran its setup.sh, it complained during the
installation that /lib/modules/2.2.10/block/hsm.0 had unresolved
symbol(s). The installation also indicated that it put serial in
/etc/rc.d/init.d/serial as a System V feature. I thought that my serial
initialization was running from /etc/rc.d/rc.serial. Also, when I
logout of linux, the shutdown messages stated that the serial driver was
not loaded.

Any suggestions?

Windows likes to use an extention to the ISO9660 format called Joliet.
Maybe that's why it's not reading it. Linux can read such a CD assuming
that Joliet extentions have been compiled into your kernel. When you burn
the CD with Adaptec Easy CD, there should be an option to use ISO9660
format, however you'll only be limited to 8.3 filename format.

What options are you giving to the tulip driver?

There is a diagnostics utility for tulip chipsets that should also let
you change several settings for the card during runtime. See

Perhaps the kernel patches at http://www.linux-ide.org will help. Try
plugging the drives into the ATA33 controller, install linux, then try

Yes you will need extra drivers, but Adaptec does NOT make these... And I

Together with Michael Soibelman I tried to get them to make one, but they

From: Cannon Fodder <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
Subject: Re: multiple soundblaster cards?
Date: Tue, 02 Jan 2001 08:58:24 GMT

This is an interesting idea, two sound cards. :)
But unfortunately, you may have to manually modify a header file
called autoconf.h in your kernel source tree and recompile your
kernel. Here is the what section 6.4 'Can I have more than one
sound card?' of the Sound-HOWTO has to say:

With the current sound driver it's possible to have several
  SoundBlaster, SoundBlaster/Pro, SoundBlaster16, MPU-401 or MSS
cards
  at the same time on the system. Installing two SoundBlasters is
  possible but requires defining the macros SB2_BASE, SB2_IRQ,
SB2_DMA
  and (in some cases) SB2_DMA2 by editing local.h manually. It's
also
  possible to have a SoundBlaster at the same time as a PAS16.

  With the 2.0 and newer kernels that configure sound using make
config,
  instead of local.h, you need to edit the file
  /usr/include/linux/autoconf.h. After the section containing the
lines:

       #define SBC_BASE 0x220
       #define SBC_IRQ (5)
       #define SBC_DMA (1)
       #define SB_DMA2 (5)
       #define SB_MPU_BASE 0x0
       #define SB_MPU_IRQ (-1)

add these lines (with values appropriate for your system):

       #define SB2_BASE 0x330
       #define SB2_IRQ (7)
       #define SB2_DMA (2)
       #define SB2_DMA2 (2)

If I were you, I'd also read the Sound-HOWTO just for good
measure. But personally, I can't see why the Ethernet-HOWTO
trick couldn't work, where you would just specifiy something like
the following in

/etc/conf.modules:

alias sound1 <soundcard module>
alias sound2 <soundcard module>

options <soundcard module> irg=5,7 io=0x220,0x240 dma=0,1
dma16=5,6 mpu=0x300,0x330

^D

]# modprobe sound1
]# modprobe sound2

# or if the above doesn't work try

]# modprobe <soundcard module>

Good Luck,
CF

just get the patch from http://www.highpoint-tech.com but goto the other
site they mention and download the patch for 2.2.18 kernel and download
2.2.18 kernel and patch the kernel and recompile.. You will also come
across an option of where it will ask if you want to use an extra ide
controller and click the option for the hpt366 (eventhought the abit kt7raid
board uses the hpt370), it will work.. I am running redhat 7.0 with the
latest kernel 2.2.18 and it works great with the Abit kt7 raid mobo and I
have a total of 5 ide drives in my system 2 hds (1 for linux and 1 for
winblows), 1 CD Rom, 1 CDRW and 1 internel ATAPI Zip 100 drive and they all
work under Linux perfectly...

You've got to enable the IDE1 in your BIOS. Your BIOS is
skipping the scan of the secondary IDE bus to save a few seconds
booting up.
