And finally, what do you think will be the strong point differentiating

This, IMHO, should be the first question (actually - you got the
entire process reversed) - what is the purpose of this site and how
does it intend to address this purpose? This should be answered well
before and irrespective of which software to run on it.

My view is that linux.org.il should be defined as something like "a
first port of call to address questions and the curiosity of people
from the general Israeli public who are NOT familiar with Linux/FOSS
at all or are not familiar with the Israeli FOSS facilities
(community, sites, service providers, events, bodies, history etc)."
To stress - its audience should be the general Israeli public, maybe
further sub-divided to laymen vs. technical audience.

It doesn't have to be dynamic (e.g. daily or weekly or even monthly
news) but it SHOULD be accurate and up to date (e.g. if it attempts to
list relevant web sites then this list should be kept up to date and
with current links, if it attempts to track the current latest release
of some well known distributions then this list should be up to date,
same with lists of service providers (accurate contact details), event
calendar etc.).

Now once whoever runs this site agrees on the purpose, they should
agree on the content - what kinds of questions does it have to answer
and how.

Then you should think about the site's design - layout, sections, style etc.

(I'd add here - define an exact process to maintain the web site -
processes to accept updates, processes to check accuracy, maybe a
process to proof-read content, a staging site to test software updates
and a process to test them, etc).

Only THEN you should pick the software which will allow you to achieve
all the goals decided above properly.

Doing it the other way around, just as was suggested in the thread so
far, is like picking a hammer and then going looking for nails to use
it on.

As for authors from other sites (and this is part of the second stage
- "content", and the third stage - "layout"), I'd expect a simple
RSS-based feed into a JavaScript window would address this and provide
the extra exposure to these community web sites, but this is a
technicality from the later stages and shouldn't be considered the
focus of rebuilding linux.org.il

Who's the power behind linux.org.il right now?
