I have good experience with IBM and DELL. I have had success connecting both of them with Wifi. Most of them come with Intel WP2100 or WP2200 which have a free driver but non-free firmware. You compile the driver, download the firmware (free as in free beer) to /usr/lib/firmware/hotplug then when you modprobe the driver it will automaticly loads the firmware.
