Right, this is way up there with '640k RAM should be enough for everyone'. Rest assured that there are, and will be modems for non-PC use for a LONG LONG time. And they were around before the PC. Most of them are not super fast (56k) but there are certain things that just won't work without them.

i think you have misinterpreted what i wrote. i did not say "they are not in use". i said "new ones are not developed". this is for the simple reason that the technology has got to its peak.

thus, modems sold today probably use the same chips that were used on modems sold 4-5 years ago, and thus those would be likely to have drivers.
