If you have 2 servers serving the same data and both are properly delegated, then if one fails the other will continue to answer the queries. Actually, the client resolving nameserver will contact one in random order and then ask the query. If this fails it will wait for a few seconds and ask the next server. Apart from the small timelag there won't be much effect.
