You MUST be joking!!!
SBLive is what I have right now (It shipped with our Dell Preinstalled
Linux workstation)
First of all, I tried everying: downloaded the drivers, [re]compiled
everying, even the kernel. It doesn't work even with non-SMP kernel.
If I'm not mistaken,
http://opensource.creative.com/ clearly states that SBLive won't work
with SMP kernels.
This is exactly WHY I'm in the market for a new soundcard.

I run IBM's DB2 UDB V6.1 (although 7.1 is out now). It costs about
$350, so whether you want to use it is up to you. It works extremely
well, but their customer support is non-existant unless you are
willing to pay $210/hour for each hour or fraction thereof. I refused
to pay, so I must figure out most things myself.
I used to run Informix-SE, but it had only a C API and no C++ API,
which was a great annoyance to me. It quit when I upgraded my OS from
RH 5.0 to RH 6.0 because I could no longer read their CD-ROM and they
would not send me a new one.
In mid 1998, I tried postgreSQL 6.3.2 and it was lousy then. I then
tried postgreSQL 6.4 and it was lousy too, but in different ways. It
is my understanding that it has been much improved since then and you
may wish to look into it.
If transactions are not important to you, MySQL might be of use. IIRC,
it is free for personal use.
This by no means exhausts the list of possibilities.

Subject: Fetchmail - non-fatal error with ssh

When I run fetchmail, I get the following:
$ fetchmail
mesg: cannot stat
fetchmail: No mail for...
The error is non-fatal, and doesn't stop fetchmail from receiving
messages. This has happened since I attempted to add in a ssh preconnect.
.fetchmailrc:
poll mailhost port 1234 via localhost protocol pop3 user username limit 50
000 pass password:
preconnect "ssh -f mailhost -L 1234:mailhost:110 sleep 5 "
What's causing the "mesg: cannot stat" error and how do I fix it?

I have been having exactly the same problem (with a 6 hour time difference).
My /etc/sysconfig/clock file reads:
UTC="no"
ZONE=America/Chicago
ARC=false
Should I change
UTC="no"
to
UTC=false
?
For that matter, should I put quotes around
America/Chicago
(or change it to something else)?
Thanks for any help.

Check the UTC line in /etc/sysconfig/clock and the output of
"hwclock" (with --utc if UTC=true in /etc/sysconfig/clock).

Not being a commercial system, Linux cannot make such guarantees.
If a particualr card doesn't work, take it back and exchange
it for one that does.
The best soundcards, in my experience, have always been the
simplest, most generally brain-damaged, like the classic
SoundBlaster 16. I currently use a no-name Crystal-based card
(PnP works fine with isapnp) and it works perfectly.

Subject: Cd writing problem
Date: Sat, 16 Dec 2000 00:08:55 GMT
I have a problem in trying to burn cds and I am not entirely sure if it
is a hardware or software problem.
I am using cdrecord 1.9 on a pc running redhat 6.2 with scsi hard disc
and cd-rw. The cd is apparently burnt with no errors (although it is a
bit slow to get started) but it cannot be read. Looking at the burnt
tracks I can see a gap a few mm wide just after the beginning of the cd
which I presume is why it can't be read.
Guessing it might be a problem with the cd-rw (which was new and in a
new computer) I swapped it with a tried-and-trusted (and older) cd-r
which worked on another computer. The same problem again!
Any help would be very much appreciated

Read the man page for mpg123, paying particular attention to the -w
option. If these are long files (> 10 seconds or so) use gogo or
bladeenc or lame to turn the PCM wavs into MP3s and go from there.
Oh yes, if you are going to be using .signature files, remember the
McQuarrie convention. Delimiter is "-- " not "--", length not to exceed
4 lines of not more than 80 characters each.

You told the system that your BIOS clock was running in UTC (Universal
Time =GMT). However your onboard clock is actually set to local time (do
you use Windows?) Either tell your system your hardware clock is in
local time (in which case linus will not take care of daylight savings for you), that
or set your hardware clock to UTC and have your windows clock always be
out. Or install
chrony
and run
chrony -r -s
when the system boots up to compensate for your bad clock ( but you will
still have trouble with daylight savings).

I have Win95 and Linux peacefully coexisting on my P-166, with
LILO set up to boot either OS. But sometimes while I'm running
