Yes, I received your post and tried your suggestion.
When doing this, there was a very long pause after the
connect and eventually, something timed out causing the
modem to reset (AT Z) then redial.

Thanks for the suggestion.  Although I hate to do this,
I think I'll just find an ISP whose willing to support non
pre-canned Windows/Dos connections :-).  I understand
the nature of what's going on here but, unless my ISP
gives me some support, I could spend a lifetime trying
different dialing combinations -something I'm not willing
to do...
