Thanks for the input, Ray. Unfortunately, I don't have any very clear recollection of specifics of that error message, other than it telling me there was some sort of problem setting up modules since modules were in use by the current kernel, and giving a very stern warning about the need to reboot to finish this process once the dist-upgrade was finished. Maybe I should note that the dist-upgrade seemed to be reinstalling the version of the kernel I was running at the time (2.6.5) - I'm at a loss as to why that would be. In any case, I've got a way to at least get networking going, which is the most important thing I do involving modules at the moment. So, I'll just sort of limp along with that and try to figure out what to do next. More, undoubtedly, later.
