Thanks, but how do I find out which libc my X is linked to? and how do I
reset it so netscape will work but not screw other stuff up?

Since netscape is an X application (isn't it?) what matters in this case
is which libc your X is linked with. ldd can show you that:
Script started on Thu Mar 25 18:49:38 1999
witsend:/home/whit# ldd /usr/X11R6/lib/libX11.so
libc.so.6 => /usr/lib/libc.so.6 (0x400a6000)
/lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x00000000)
witsend:/home/whit# exit
exit
Script done on Thu Mar 25 18:52:22 1999
This one is linked with libc.so.6, AKA glibc.
