REDHAT 5.2 control panel

does anyone know how to use the rpm tool?
i tried to put a new directory in it but redhat could not find the
file...
so i use rpm -i at the command prompt and it went crazy...the file i
want to install is small...i downloaded it to practice using the redhat
tools..eheh my book says the is the easiest way to install....thanks
