Do you have RH, if so the CD includes a manual, this explains among
other things how to use rpm.
Also try the manpages and the help
man rpm
rpm --help

if you want to install a program the general format is \
        rpm -ivh nameofprogram-typeofarch.rpm
i meaning install
v verbose 
h print hashmarks.

BUT you should read the manual first.
