I've had two ethernet cards fry on me some time around an attempted
ftp install of Debian Linux. Was it just a coincidence, or is there some way of
hoing hardware damage? I'm a little skeptical, but I'm also freaked out by the
fact that it happenned twice. Both cases involved a 486 with an SMC Ultra
ethernet card. The board itself is turned black under what appears to be a
pair of surface mount transistors.
Is this passible, or am I nuts? I'm hoping I'm nuts because I'm
thinking of trying the installation on one of MY systems. :-)

Thanks

Peter Howell
