You should not need to check-in. After you added a new interface type (say
ppp) you should have been presented with another window which ask for the
phone number to dial, ppp login name, ppp password and whether to use pap
authentication. After this you should have gone back to the "Interface"
window. All you needed then is to select the ppp0 line and hit the connect
button at the bottom. Start you browser and surf (I am assuming you have
completed the info required in the other windows, especially the "Names"
windows)
