Jakob,

It is my understanding that a software RAID solution is not as fault
tolerant as a hardware solution.  Specifically, in a software solution,
software is required to load and mount the array; if the disk containing the
software fails, would it not then be impossible to load the array and bring
the system up?  Additionally, by having a hardware solution, I have a
processor and possibly (depending upon controller architecture) RAM
dedicated specifically to my array, rather than competing with my server
processes.  Am I wrong in this line of thinking?  I would like to make an
informed decision, so any input is gladly welcomed.  Thanks again!
