I got the impression (from lkmla) that Andrea/Alan believed that something was
wrong, and Ingo argued why it wasn't (it was a paranoia sanity check inserted
in the RAID code long ago), but agreed that it might be time to start cleaning
up some of the RAID code to get rid of those really paranoid checks.

The RAID code and associated tools implement a large number of
consistency/sanity checks, and I feel completely safe about that   :)    But as
RAID seems stable now, and has done so for a long time, perhaps some of those
checks could be killed to make the code more readable...

Anyway, this is my interpretation of what happened.  I may be wrong and I may
not.
