Here a $1 worth of power advise (from apcupsd-guy) you did not ask for...

Buy a MatrixUPS that has stackable HOT-SWAP power-cells.
Buy a Curtis RUBY-Class or better wall surge protector with the following:
        clamping voltage        340V
        clamping time           < 120ns
        varistor cluster        10 minimum
                (these are what suffer/burn at clamping events)

Why???

The surge unit is a $50-75.00 disposable thing for........
The UPS unit which is also a $400-1000.00 disposable thing for........
The Linux BOX you treasure costing $2500->unlimited.........
