I happen to have bought the same device. It's a Sandisk SDDR-55. Acording
to the Sandisk Homepage it suppose to work with linux but in fact it doesn't.
That's what I got as answer from Sandisk when I asked for Support:

  Currently the reader does not have Linux support, the Website has been
updated. We will
  have more information on Linux support for that model shortly

According to Matt it isn't supported so far with the usb-storage driver.
