This vendor/productId seems not to be new. The 0x55aa as vendorId is actualy from another company than Sandisk (OnSpec Electronic Inc) according to linux-usb.org. Maybe they bought some hardware and sell it as their own, who knows. I don't know Matt Dharm's plans.
