For USB, I have a Zio, which reads fine under the SDDR09 driver
(experimental in usb-storage) but is physically much smaller than
the SanDisk (I have a sub-notebook so I don't want to lug around
a lot of big peripherals). Unfortunately the sddr09 driver is
read-only for now, so you can't erase the card after uploading.

In the meantime, I'm using an Antec PCMCIA SM reader. It both reads and
writes, and Antec actually recognizes the existence of Linux on their
web site. I'm quite happy with it. I get hotplug notifications on
either ejecting the pcmcia card from the laptop, or from ejecting the
smartmedia card from the pcmcia adaptor (a nice touch when I'm
uploading several cards' worth of pictures). Also, the Antec was
half the price of the Sandisk PCMCIA reader.
