Karl Heinz,
I upgraded gimp, glib, and gtk so that I could
build gimp-print. All are now built.
I also downloaded the 112 MB printer-ready file
that you made for me.
Bad News (?): I can "cp HUGE_FILE /dev/usb/lp0"
correctly and I get NO errors (nothing unexpected
in my log file; just an info message from the
USB printer driver).
I also tried this:
In gimp, file/print to File.
Changed Setup/Driver to Epson Stylus Color 740.
Changed Media Size to Letter.
Changed Resolution to 720 DPI Highest Quality
(and second time to 1440x720 DPI Highest Quality).
Clicked Print to generate the file.
When I copy (cp) the 720 DPI HighestQ file to /dev/usb/lp0,
I do get I/O error (timeout, -2 = -ENOENT = URB canceled).
Would this be close to what you are seeing?
I'm now trying it by having gimp & gimp-print print
directly to lpraw (my logical name for /dev/usb/lp0
with no printer filters)...
This worked at 360 DPI (3.5 MB, relatively small file).
At 720 DPI High Quality (51 MB data): works, and since
"cp printed_to_a_file /dev/usb/lp0" fails (2 times) with
the same graphics file, it a must be a driver issue
(but printer driver or HCD?).
I'll keep looking at it now that I have a reproducible
setup.
