This reminds me of the problems I had with RH 7.2 or whatever. I think
redhat was not using the partitions properly. As I RECALL, I made everything
just one big partition and it worked. 

What you might do is run another failed RH installation, then use Knoppix
to boot up the machine and see what happened.
