You might want to note that the machine you run the application on (ie. NOT
the one you are typing at), needs to be able to resolve whatever your local
hostname is, as TELNET sets up the DISPLAY environment variable as:
DISPLAY=hostname:0.0
So if your machine is not resolvable by DNS, you might consider adding an
entry in /etc/hosts for your local workstation.
I use ssh with XForwarding stuff turned on (in the client config and server
config both)
I like that better because I don't have to deal with the above issue, not
to mention I can run X Apps securely over the Internet without poking holes
in my firewall!
Note that running through ssh is a little bit slower, but it only uses the
established connection! Pretty sweet, eh?

Do I need to exit X completely before executing this command? I just did
Ctl-Alt-F1 to get a console login and tried it.
