If KDM doesn't allow the option to shutdown X server, then a simple
"CTRL-ALT-BKSPC" should work.
Glad to hear it worked for you! I have had pretty good luck doing it and
it's made me pretty geeked on X ever since.

Matt,
This worked flawlessly. Well, not quite flawlessly, I had trouble
disconnecting from the server. I ended up switching to a console
(ctl-alt-F1)
and killing X and kdm. There's gotta be a better way to close the session
than that. I'll keep looking into it.
