As far as cups goes, jbl has three packages. Install all of them. Do
chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.cups, then ...rc.cups start. Use
http://locahost:631 to setup your printer. You may need to
/usr/bin/enable and /usr/bin/accept lp0(or whatever name you use).
cups has some sort of an intercept that enables the lpx series of
commands. Works through (x)inetd, but I haven't figured out how to
make it work. I just added aliases for lpx (lpr, lpq, lpstat, lprm)
to lpr-cups ... For some reason, this doesn't work for anything kde
or opera or sylpheed. For sylpheed, you can configure the command
'cat %s | lpr-cups' in the 'other' settings. I haven't found any way
to make opera or kde work, so I have to print to file, then cat xxx |
lpr to print stuff.
Let me know if you try any of this and get further than I did.
