Someone may have a better solution this, as I'm not exactly a linux guru.
Obviously, one of the hardware probes is hanging in the detection mode, which
isn't uncommon in linux. First thing I'd try is disconnecting devices one by
one, until you find out what's locking. In my experience, USB devices and
network cards have been the largest offenders. Pull all of your USB cables out
of your computer and try again. If that doesn't help, start disabling devices
in your CMOS, such as the USB controller itself and the network adapter. If
you're using a PCI Lan card, of course you will have to remove the card itself.
Or you could try downloading opensuse 10.2 which was just released in a final
version. Whatever is hanging on boot up may be fixed in the latest release.
At least you cross your fingers to that.
