FYI, I have an ASUS Crosshair mobo that requires dual-channel. I even tried
it with one known good stick and it faults before booting. Fortunately, it
includes an LCD on the back that gives codes indicating what is wrong. The
mobo manual indicates that dual channel is require by saying that the amount
of RAM in the two different banks must be equal or
M1 + M2 = M3 + M4
M1 and M3 are color coded blue and M2 and M4 are color coded white.
