 woa, careful there.

I'm very anti-microsoft (I've not used a microsoft product for almost
two years now), but I wouldn't go as far as saying Apache on Linux
costs nothing. Even if the statement (and the comparison) is
technically true, I'm not comfortable saying that.

You can get Linux for as low as US$ 5, vs US$ 300 for Windows NT
Server (again, 'for as low as' is important here, and you could even
say you can get NT Server for free in some situations).

And even if you have to pay a ridiculous ammount of money for NT
Server and needed licenses, then, in order to make a fair comparison,
you should introduce "Linux's hidden costs" in the equation. If you
are a newcomer, you have to learn stuff and/or pay someone to install
and configure the software according to your needs. If you are
moving from NT, this is something you have already paid for
(webserver or not). Nowadays, it's more likely to find an MSCE
person than a linux-knowledgeable person if you use a random sample
('knowledgeable' is a key factor here).

It's true, overall a Linux box costs less, but let's try to present
numbers your average Joe Admin can swallow easily, without frowning
 at them.
