Subject: RE: Out on Flex and that's depressingly final!
I did read that and several others and I came to the conclusion that I would actually rather use Flex for any number of reasons. However, those reasons just don't add up to $12K and even if they did -- I can't buy it. My company (not talking about my day job, mind you) is a small company hoping to be big some day. I'd love to be all MM -- CF, Flex, the works, but I can't. I'm just happy that Laszlo is out there so I'm not entirely left out!!! My whole point is that while I'm sure it will work just fine, I'm upset at MM that I can't use Flex.
Also, I'm sure MM did their homework and knows a hell of a lot more about it than I do, but it seems like you could sell Flex for much cheaper and still make an absolute killing. Let's say the price was $4K. Imagine how many companies that can't (or just won't) buy it at $12K, could/would at $4K and you'd still be able to sell it to all of those companies that would have bought it at $12K. Obviously, there's some level below which this model falls apart and you begin to lose money in comparison. It seems to me though, in my most humble of opinion, that the price is just too high for what they're selling.
I think I'm just a little bitter about it is all.

I wouldn't say you're making a *wrong* choice with Laszlo by any means. It's a great product and if you looked at both very carefully and didn't see the advantage with Flex as compared to the price tag, then I'm sure you'll do very cool stuff with Laszlo. The guys at iteration::two compared Flex to Laszlo on their blog; do a google and you may find some insights on the issue.

myThe reason for the price tag is who the target audience of Flex is. The Enterprise Market. That market typically will not bat an eye at 12K for server software.
